Balanced Body Reformer teacher training focuses on Reformer safety, repertoire, and practical skills required to teach in any Pilates environment.

Our Reformer course covers beginner to advanced-level exercises with a focus on understanding the underlying movement principles of each exercise, building and progressing to a more challenging Reformer repertoire. Our students learned to develop the hands-on skills needed to be successful instructors, such as verbal and tactile cueing, exercise progressions and regressions, and programming.

Our Reformer program starts with Movement Principles, two days of face-to-face training in which we learn to teach movements in their simplest form. From here, these Movement Principles are built on in every other Balanced Body training module. Students will learn the history of Joseph Pilates and study topics including Osteoporosis, Low Back Pain, and Prenatal and Postnatal programming.

To successfully complete our Reformer Pilates teacher training program, both practical and theoretical tests must be passed, demonstrating teaching competency and mastery of the Pilates approach, principles, and programming. Graduates are then equipped to lead Reformer Pilates classes in a variety of environments, including fitness centers, rehabilitation facilities, and boutique Pilates studios, to assist clients in attaining their wellness and fitness goals.

Movement Principles: The Foundation of Balanced Body Training

Before starting your Reformer Pilates instructor training, it’s important to understand the underlying Movement Principles that support the Reformer repertoire. This two-day prerequisite serves as a solid basis for any Balanced Body teacher training program, whether it is Mat Pilates, Reformer training, or Studio apparatus. The module covers basic movements and pre-pilate exercises, which are expanded on in all other Balanced Body training. Movement Principles teaches you how the body moves, how to assess it, and how to train it, building practical skills to make you the best Pilates instructor around.

Reformer 1 (16 hours)

Reformer 1 introduces the Reformer machine, the cornerstone of Pilates equipment and an indispensable training tool for any Pilates instructor. This module offers a mix of supine, sitting, and standing exercises appropriate for beginners to intermediate-level students, and applies the Movement Principles learnt previously to better understand each exercise and how to teach it.

Reformer 1 also includes guidance for training individuals with unique needs such as osteoporosis, pregnancy, and post-partum. Understanding these guidelines is crucial to working safely with these populations.

Reformer 2 (16 hours)

Progressing from the foundational level work, Reformer 2 delves into intermediate and advanced Reformer exercises, considerably enhancing the Reformer machine’s capabilities with more complex movement patterns and multiplanar movements. This module provides modifications and precautions for working with clients who have low back pain.

It also focuses on program and class design, exercise sequencing, and whole-body integrations, giving you a toolbox full of skills you’ll need to succeed in any Reformer studio. The hands-on teaching experience in this module focuses on building strong tactile skills and bringing your verbal cues to new levels that will only enhance your clients movement experience.

Reformer 3 (16 hours)

Reformer 3 is considered to be the pinnacle of the Reformer Pilates instructor course, featuring advanced and super-advanced exercises. In this module we spend time dissecting the more complicated repertoire into digestible pieces that can be taught to a range of clients, building strong foundations and muscular strength that will build them towards succeeding at the more advanced repertoire over time.

Programming and exercise sequencing skills are further developed in Reformer 3 to ensure every workout hits the spot with flow, focus, and efficiency, no matter your clients needs, goals, or fitness abilities.

Once you complete your Reformer training, you might wish to add other Pilates apparatus to your skill set, such as the Trapeze table or Wunda Chair.

Expansive Repertoire: With Balanced Body Reformer training you learn beginner to super advanced level repertoire on the Reformer, plus equipment hygiene and maintenance protocol. The extensive amount of content and exercises covered is superior to our competitors, giving you the biggest selection of Reformer repertoire to use for class programming as your clients progress and advance.

Progressive certification: Each face-to-face module includes practical teaching assessments and a written module test. After successful completion of both the practical teaching and written segments, a certificate of completion is granted after each module. A final Balanced Body Reformer certification is granted once all modules are complete and the final test out has been passed.
