Embarking on the journey to become a certified Mat Pilates instructor opens the door to a rewarding and fulfilling career. Mat Pilates teacher training is more than just learning a series of exercises; it is also about understanding the underlying movement principles, knowing how to alter exercises for different demographics, and developing the skills required to teach the body in front of you, no matter what their movement background or fitness level.
Our approach starts with an in-depth look at Pilates fundamentals like breath, concentration, control, centering, precision, and flow. You’ll learn basic anatomy and biomechanics, providing a solid basis for understanding how the body moves and how to train it. Our Mat Pilates program covers beginner to super advanced exercises, as well as small apparatus including ball, resistance bands, foam roller and magic circle.
To successfully complete our Mat Pilates teacher training program, both practical and written tests must be passed, demonstrating teaching competency and mastery of the Pilates approach, underlying principles and programming. Graduates then possess the skills to instruct Mat sessions in a variety of environments or build their own clientele without the expensive cost of Pilates equipment.
Mat 1 is the starting point for the Mat Pilates training courses. This 16-hour curriculum introduces the history and fundamentals of the Pilates method. Participants will learn beginner to intermediate-level exercises, as well as regressions, progressions, and safety considerations for injuries and specific populations.
Modifications and Progress: As an instructor it is important to be able to modify repertoire to accommodate different fitness levels and physical constraints. With our Pilates Mat instructor course, instructors will be able to deliver safe and effective programs for a variety of clients.
Special Populations: Mat 1 also includes guidelines for teaching clients who are pregnant, postnatal, and have osteoporosis or low back pain. This knowledge is crucial for instructors who wish to offer inclusive and supportive Pilates classes with safe modifications.
Building on Mat 1’s foundation, Mat 2 is a 16-hour program that covers the remaining intermediate , advanced and super advanced level Mat exercises. This module ensures a thorough comprehension of the repertoire and links the beginner work to more challenging exercises though safe and effective progressions, building our clients strength over time that will allow them to master the more challenging Mat exercises.
Enhanced Cueing Techniques: Mat 2 places a major emphasis on both verbal and hands-on cueing skills. Effective cueing is necessary for directing clients through exercises effectively, efficiently and safely. This forms an important part of instructor training with Balanced Body and can greatly affect the clients movement experience. Focussing on mindful movement is what it is all about!
This 16-hour session rounds out the Mat training by introducing small apparatus to the repertoire already covered in Mat 1 and Mat 2. Here we add the resistance band, ball, foam roller and magic circle to further challenge your clients strength and stability, giving you literally hundreds of new variations to use in your programming that will keep sessions interesting and fun for all levels.
Whole Body Integration: The addition of Pilates props moves the traditional Mat repertoire into a whole body integration focus. It includes functional movement patterns and more standing work to further challenge your clients, promoting whole-body strength and flexibility, giving clients a more complete exercise experience
